December 2005 Holiday Newsletter - www.mycomputerangel.com

Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year!! It has been another successful year for both Webskinz (our web design company) and Evtechie (Renamed My Computer Angel!)- which as you know, has helped to support our home while I attend the Masters Program at Rollins. Your support has been just one of the many blessings in our lives. Thank you!

I begin my Practicum in Mental Health Counseling at Greenhouse Counseling Center to which I am committing to the start of each week on my calendar, however I continue to support the computing community. My openings will be Wednesday - Friday. If this can be fit into your schedule, don't hesitate to call and we can set an appointment!

Testimonials - I am happy to announce that my site has been a great hit. There have been a few squeaks about Evtechie being phased out, however the new name seems appropriate. Meanwhile, I could still use a few testimonials (if you think I have been helpful, share a few short thoughts that we can post) - In addition, if you have a web site, I can add a link to your site from the testimonial! Great way to network. If you want a banner on your site from me, that can also be arranged. Reciprocal linking is a wonderful way to bring more attention from the search engines!
New Email Address! help@mycomputerangel.com

I have been using my RoadRunner email account as my primary email for several years now, however, my work keeps me moving, and Road Runner makes it a challenge to reply to emails outside of their network. Thus, the introduction to a NEW email address which allows me to respond to emails easily and quickly while out of the office. Please be prepared to get emails from help@mycomputerangel.com - and make sure I don't fall into your spam folders!

A NEW Gizmo to Make Outlook Backups-

In my search to find some recent solutions for a client or two I also bumped into a new software solution by Microsoft to make outlook backups a lot easier and timely. One of the things that many of us use to support our business is Outlook (Not Express!) which manages email, contacts, calendars, tasks, and journaling of contact correspondence. Imagine loosing all that data with a computer crash!

Next time I am in your neighborhood, have me get you set up with this tiny utility which includes a scheduler for automatic backup to an external device. OR, if you are inclined to get it going yourself - it can be found at:

www.microsoft.com - Or do an OFFICE UPDATE by opening any Microsoft product (Like Outlook) then clicking on HELP -->Check for Updates (that is where I found the link originally!)

Quick Internet Explorer

Did you know you can get to a web site quickly from your Task Bar? There are several quick links that can be added to your Task Bar, one of which is the Address Bar for the internet.

  • Right Click on an empty spot on your Task Bar
  • Select Toolbars --> Address
  • It will add an address bar to your task bar. You may have to adjust it with the little dotted bar on the right by grabbing it an sliding it over.
  • You can then type any web site address and hit enter and OFF it will go!
  • It will also respect your default browser (so if you don't use IE - it will use whatever you usually use, like Firefox or Mozilla!)

HOW do I change my wallpaper on the desktop?? (Especially with all these wonderful Holiday Pictures I want to look at)

  • Right click on an empty spot on your desktop
  • Choose Properties
  • Choose the Desktop TAB
  • Click BROWSE and choose your pictures folder - find a favorite that isn't too busy (Busy images make it hard to see your icons)
  • Click OK

You can also adjust those ICONS that you need like MY COMPUTER and Internet Explorer -

  • On the same display window that you started for your desktop picture, you can also click the DESKTOP button
  • This will allow you to put check boxes in the essentials, AND change your icons for My Computer, Recycle, Etc.
